HI, I'M DR. TWYLA!

I'm a licensed physical therapist, Parkinson's wellness coach, and the founder of Empowered Movement Collective. I started this practice because of a pattern I watched repeat itself for years. Someone gets diagnosed with Parkinson's and leaves the neurologist's office with a folder of information and very little sense of what to actually do with their life now. Then they eventually find their way to physical therapy, we do good work together, and then they walk out the door and I have almost no visibility into what happens next. Two gaps, and both of them matter. I built EMC to exist in the space between a diagnosis and real confidence, and between an appointment and the rest of someone's week.

Most of my career has been in neurological PT. Working with people whose nervous systems are unpredictable taught me early that the standard playbook doesn't always apply. Parkinson's became my focus when I saw how much the right movement, paired with real coaching and an actual relationship, could change how someone moved and how they thought about what came next.

I hold a Doctorate in Physical Therapy, a Board Certification as a Neurologic Clinical Specialist, and PWR! certification, which is one of the most respected credentials in Parkinson's-specific exercise. I also teach at USC and West Coast University, which keeps me close to the research before it trickles down into practice.

Credentials aside, what I bring into every session is a stubborn belief that you're more capable than your diagnosis suggests. I've seen it proven right more times than I can count.

I START BY LISTENING. EVERYTHING ELSE FOLLOWS.

  • "After two months, my balance improved, my body felt much more relaxed, and going up and down stairs became easier. This allowed me to successfully complete my month-long trip to Xinjiang."

  • "She works with the human, and not just the client. Twyla helped my mom identify things she could adjust in her day-to-day to help improve her symptoms and overall function with PD. From sleep, to work overload, to medication timing. Having someone like Twyla in your corner is absolutely priceless."

    Lauren

  • “I had severe back pain, now ZERO. I have more motivation, and my flexibility and balance have improved. At times of doubt and thoughts of giving up, I ask myself: what would Twyla have me do?"

    Bob

  • "Fantastic, energetic and positive professional support. Showing care and respect for our National and International Parkinson community, clearly and easily communicated language. We love to work out with Twyla, a sweet lady who does a lot for us. Definitely i recommend to contact Twyla for consultation on more. "
